Dan Burton, Founder and CEO of Fortis Operations Group, LLC, brings more than two decades of leadership experience across military, federal, healthcare, hospitality, and private contract security environments. His career reflects a deep commitment to professionalism, accountability, and risk-based security operations at the highest standards.
Mr. Burton holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, and an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, combining strategic business acumen with operational security expertise. He is a Department of Defense–certified Physical Security Specialist and Security Manager, a State of Utah–certified Security and Law Enforcement Instructor, and a recognized subject matter expert in de-escalation, defensive tactics, and risk assessment.
Before founding Fortis Operations Group, Mr. Burton served in senior security leadership roles with the U.S. Air Force, where he managed the Air Force’s 2nd largest domestic physical security and resource protection programs, overseeing more than 80 controlled areas. His responsibilities included intelligence analysis, vulnerability assessments, security breach investigations, CPTED implementation, and the development of installation-wide security directives that met or exceeded Department of Defense standards.
In the private sector, Mr. Burton has led regional and site-level security operations for major healthcare systems, luxury hospitality brands, and multi-state contract security firms. He has designed and implemented comprehensive training programs, managed large operating budgets, conducted internal investigations, and built strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
A former Military Police Supervisor and Patrol Lieutenant, Mr. Burton’s leadership is grounded in real-world operational experience. He is also a certified firearms, less-lethal, and verbal de-escalation instructor, ensuring that Fortis personnel are trained not only to respond effectively, but to prevent incidents through professionalism and sound judgment.
